Target Audience:

This enduring activity has been developed to meet the educational needs of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who treat patients with advanced wounds.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  • Enhance the understanding of advanced wound care principles.

  • Describe the latest advancements in wound care management, including the pathophysiology of chronic wounds, evidence-based treatment protocols, and the role of specialized resources in optimizing patient outcomes.

  • Develop competence in wound assessment and treatment techniques.

  • Demonstrate improved competency in conducting comprehensive wound assessments, effectively utilizing debridement techniques, implementing appropriate infection control measures, and managing moisture to promote optimal wound healing.

    Implement consistent wound care protocols.

  • Apply established wound care protocols presented in the course from the guidelines of The International Working Group on Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) and the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) in their clinical practice, including routine debridement, appropriate dressing selection, and timely referrals when indicated.

  • Evaluate and overcome barriers to effective wound care.

  • Identify common barriers to effective wound care management in the practice settings and devise strategies to overcome the obstacles, including advocating for standardized training and increased access to wound care resources.

This activity is designed to address the following core and team competencies: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-based learning, Professionalism, Employ evidence-based practice, and Interprofessional collaboration.

Podiatrists:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards and requirements for approval of providers of continuing education in podiatric medicine through a joint provider agreement between CineMed and the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing. CineMed is approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine.

CineMed has approved this activity for a maximum of 19 continuing education contact hours.

Physicians:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Gladwell CME and the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing. Gladwell CME is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
